Rare. Unexpected. A Black Swan. For centuries, it was not believed to have existed, until in 1697 when Dutch explorer, Willem de Vlamingh, became the first European to see black swans in Western Australia. The phrase “black swan” derives from a Latin expression “rara avis in terris nigroque simillima cygno” (“a rare bird in the lands and very much like a black swan”) written by a 2ndcentury Roman poet, Juvenal. Juvenal’s phrase became widely popular in describing events that seemed unpredictable and improbable.
We currently find ourselves in the midst of a Black Swan Event with COVID-19. Its consequences are much greater than one could have imagined from a pandemic in the 21st century. Who could have foreseen how a single event could entangle itself into so many facets of business and life, and could have such a profound effect on the world’s population of 8 billion people. Not me.
This week we are in for a rare treat to hear from best-selling author, educator, speaker, Certified Coach and Licensed Professional Counselor, Sandy Abell to help guide us towards happiness during uncertain times such as these. We all need a little help sometimes, and what a perfect opportunity to receive guidance from a life coach on how to navigate fear of the virus, the confines of quarantine and all its nuances whether it is the isolation or the closeness that have you a little off-tilt.
