Attending the Sundance Film Festival was on my personal bucket list until I moved to the Rogue Valley. A good friend of mine is a long-standing volunteer for the Ashland Independent Film Festival and took me under her wing 3 years ago and helped me experience AIFF in every way possible! My experience started with the official wine tasting of the annual AIFF signature wine at Ashland’s local wine shop. And if you did not know, Eric Weisinger is the winemaker and Michael Moore provides the grapes! My volunteer friend then showed me how to become a member, and how and when to purchase tickets to the movies, documentaries, and events of choice. People come from all over to experience this special time to engage with films and filmmakers and we are lucky to have it here in our own Valley! Sorry Sundance, Ashland satiates my film festival desires!
This week I am excited to introduce and welcome Richard Herskowitz, the Artistic Director of the Ashland Independent Film Festival who will be teasing us with glimpses of the upcoming Varsity World Film Week celebrating independent films from around the world. This year is even EXTRA special as it is the 30th Anniversary of Varsity World Film Week and the 50th Anniversary of Ashland’s connection with Sister City Guanajuato, Mexico and Sarah Hoch, the Executive Director of the Guanajuato International Film Festival will be present for the celebration!
Please invite a colleague, friend, or neighbor to join you and experience the Rotary energy our Club has to offer! If you haven’t been to a meeting in a while, we’d love to see you! Together, we can do extraordinary things!
Ask for extra butter on your popcorn and see you at the movies!
