Dear Rotarian,
FIRE. This element is considered to be the first element that was born when the universe was created. Fire is attributed to transformational and purifying powers. It can give warmth and enable life, and it can also burn and destroy.
Fires are nothing new to life in Southern Oregon. Sometimes they are caused by Mother Nature and her thunderstorms, sometimes they are intentional or controlled burns to remove fuel for future forest fires, or they are caused by the carelessness of humans. It gives me pause to recall how thunderstorms were “entertainment” to me when I lived in Tucson, Arizona. The “show” was nothing short of spectacular and mesmerizing over the desert. Now, I cringe at the tought of a thunderstorm hitting our beautiful landscape and the possible repercussions.
Please join me for our first Rotary meeting of the New Year and decade on Tuesday! We will hear from blogger, Millie Carlton, who is passionate for clean air in the the Rogue Valley and is doing something about it! I admire her motivation and feel that she just may be that “spark” for change that can be accomplished when a community comes together. Think of what Rotary has achieved with its polio eradication efforts in collaboration with The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation!
If you haven’t been to a meeting in a while, maybe consider attending more often as one of your New Year’s resolutions! Please also consider sponsoring a new member to our Club! It is amazing what a difference even one person can make!
Yours in Rotary Service,
Michelle Corradetti, President
