As we start the new Rotary year, we would like to thank all those Rotarians that demonstrated “service above self” during the last year under PDG Bill Grile. Your leadership and devotion to help grow Rotary has created a strong foundation for this year’s leadership team to build upon.
This year we will focus on “finding our heart”in Rotary as a way to help engage a stronger passion in our programs, fellowship and enrichment of our lives through service.
Formal DG visits are already underway and there has been overwhelming support for helping to move the needle of Rotary by creating club level discussion for where members want to see their club be five years down the road.
For Rotary to change, it must start with members and clubs.
As a District, we will be focusing on three main areas to help support and strengthen your club. They are membership, telling our story and the power of our foundation. Our leadership team is working on new and creative ways to provide greater resources based upon the feedback we have received during our interactions.
Rotary does not have a problem with recruiting, we have a problem engaging. Often our goals do not meet our expectations. Today we are challenged by a greater global perspective and need. Our younger generations are connected, ambitious and concerned for world peace, the environment and cultural diversity. As Rotary we strive to evolve in order to be attractive to multiple generations while responding to the needs of the clubs, made up of you the members.
It will be an exciting year and we look forward to serving your needs. I will leave you with the words of our Founder, Paul Harris –Whatever Rotary may mean to us … to the world it will only be known by the results it achieves.
Let’s all work to truly find our hearts in Rotary and to help connect Rotary to the World for a better tomorrow. The children of the world need our help. The world needs Rotary and you are Rotary.
Yours In Rotary Service, Rick and Barbara Olson District Governor 2019-20

PEACE CONFERENCE IN OUR DISTRICT
ASHLAND SEPTEMBER 21ST
GLOBAL PEACE CONFERENCE
Rotary works in many different ways towards a more peaceful world. These include all of our various exchange programs, our Peace Fellow program and, most definitely, past district governor Bill’s district conference.
We also provide World Peace Conferences each year. The next one will be January 17-18 in Ontario California. But why wait and go that far – join us in southern Oregon. The conference is sponsored by the Ashland Culture of Peace Commission and the Rotary E-Club of World Peace.
Speakers include:
Ambassador Anwarul K. Chowdhury, Former UnderSecretary General of the United Nations and Founder of the Global Movement for the Culture of Peace,
Kia Scherr, CoFounder, One Life Alliance. After her husband and 13-year-old daughter were killed in the Mumbai terrorist attack of 2008. Kia co-founded One Life Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating peace education programs for schools, business and government, and
Dr. Saul Arbess, Director of the Canadian Peace Initiative, Cofounder and Chairman of the Global Alliance for Ministries and Departments of Peace working in concert
with other countries to form departments of peace in all nations.
“Congratulations” to the 28 District Rotarians that jumped on the band wagon and registered for the September Rotary Leadership Institute weekend! Registration is now closed as the event is at capacity. A second RLI weekend will be scheduled for sometime this coming spring. Watch for details. In the meantime, please email PDG Bill Grile at dgbill1819@gmail.com if you would like to be placed on a waiting list for the September 28/29 event in case there are cancellations.”

Rotary’s Core Values
Rotary’s core values represent the guiding principles of the organization’s culture, including what guides members’ priorities and actions within the organization. Values are an increasingly important component in strategic planning because they drive the intent and direction of the organization’s leadership.
