Happy St Patty’s Day to all … May the luck of the Irish fall upon us. Your D5110 leadership team is constantly reviewing the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak and considering how we as Rotary can help in the process of “Flattening the Curve.” We are working with the club presidents to help shutter our club gatherings, cancelling district events and monitoring our Youth Exchange participants to provide the best and safest environment for our communities.

Much like our decades-long dedication to the eradication of polio, District 5110 Rotarians are pursuing timely opportunities toward service to our communities in response to this global pandemic. If your club is involved in related activities, please submit them below at the Tell Us Your Story link at the bottom of this newsletter and share ideas that could resonate with other clubs. While the majority of our Rotary events and assemblies have been postponed or cancelled of late, it doesn’t preclude us from recognizing all our great work of the 2019-20 Rotary year. It’s still time to recognize outstanding leaderhip, service and volunteerism in Rotary District 5110. Awards that exemplify acts of “Service Above Self” will be still be named minus the cancelled District Celebration.

Please accept this written notice as DGN Gerry Kosanovic’s formal submission to hold the 2022 District Celebration in the Corvallis, Oregon, hosted by the Rotary Club of Greater Corvallis. The proposed date will be April 29 – May 1, 2022. Per bylaws, alternative site proposals may be submitted to Kosanovic by April 15, 2020. Click here for more details at the District website.

We have the opportunity to produce a network-ready District 5110 30-second television spot to help all clubs recruit members in your communities ….. and we want your club participating….our producer Ryan Postma of Eugene’s Attic Media has provided further tips on how to accommodate the script and provide us with footage that could well end up as part of the production.

The Josephine County Rotary Clubs have been sponsoring Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library county-wide since June of 2018. The Dollywood Foundation has produced a film that gives a behind-the-scenes look at Dolly Parton’s literacy-focused non-profit, Imagination Library. The film is set for a one-night nationwide release on April 2, 2020. We are fortunate to be able to present this film at Southgate Cinemas in Grants Pass, Oregon at 7pm.

Dolly Parton created the Imagination Library to inspire a love for books and reading amongst the nation’s preschool children. Since inception in 1995, the Imagination Library has gifted more than 135 million books to children and is currently gifting books to 1.45 million children around the world each month. The Imagination Library affiliates screening the film will receive 50% of the box office proceeds to further their year-round efforts.

The next offering in the Rotary Friendship Exchange opportunities is an October trip to District 9350 to visit Swellendam – the oldest city in South Africa, round the Cape of Good Hope and see some of the animal parks and visit the town of Capetown, its beautiful botanical gardens and cable car ride!
