One of our District’s most anticipated and rewarding events is the annual 4-Way Test Speech Contest. This year a record twenty-nine (29) Rotary Clubs registered intent to hold a 4-Way Test Speech Contest with the active participation of local high school students. Several clubs were able to conduct a meeting event, but the majority of clubs could not host a contest because of social distancing brought about by the Coronavirus pandemic. So for your enjoyment, we have gone Digital with this year’s speeches.
“At our current level of giving, Rotary’s grant funds will take a 30 percent reduction, ” shared District TRF Chair Tim Mobley at April’s remote District Grant Workshop. In three years, this could translate to a reduction in available District Designation Grant Funds.

A program begun by Rotary is employing thousands of health workers to address the Covid-19 pandemic. The program is the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) which includes Rotary’s PolioPlus program. From the earliest days of polio eradication in the Philippines, the generosity and advocacy of Rotarians and our partners has nearly stopped polio, stopped Ebola from becoming an epidemic in Nigeria and now responds to Covid-19.

The Rotary Club of Redmond (OR) just completed the first of 4 Covid-19 related Community projects. Three of these endeavors delt with providing meals.
Members and friends of the Jacksonville-Applegate Rotary Club are busy sewing over 100 masks for the residents of Pioneer Village, the retirement home in Jacksonville. The residents are maintaining social distance and are looking forward to being able to wear their masks when they’re out and about around the facility or traveling to medical appointments.
Locked down on a remote 200-acre mountain-top rainforest campus in the northwestern corner of Guatemala, Rotarian Frances Dixon has dug in. In the wake of the coronavirus crisis, the impoverished third-world country canceled all flights in and out of the country, stranding her indefinitely.
