Jen Esme volunteer for the Red Cross
Three takeaways from today’s meeting:
- Be informed
- Make a plan
- Start building a kit
#1 disaster in our region is a house fire
- test your smoke alarms
- install smoke alarms in each sleeping room
- replace smoke alarms every 10 years
- make an exit plan
Earthquakes
- Drop, cover, and hold on!
- Don’t hide in doorways, find a place that is relatively safe and without things that will fall on you.
Make a plan
- What are the unique needs of your household?
- How will you or your family/household be alerted of a disaster?
- Where are your meeting locations if you had to evacuate?
- What is your family/household communication plan?
- What are your plans for your pets and livestock?
Build a kit
- Be prepared for 2 weeks survival
- Household participation
