5110 Celebration Teams with Red Cross

By DG Gerry Kosanovic

Club Presidents & People of Action
– as we prepare for the District 5110 2022 Celebration Conference in Corvallis, it is our intent to merge a service project with our April 30th event, one that would have a defining humanitarian focus of serving others in need.

To that end, I am thrilled to announce that we have partnered with the Red Cross to establish a rewarding, fulfilling, fun competitive virtual blood drive: District Drives to Save Lives. This event will begin on March 22nd and conclude on April 28, 2022. It is easy and simple for club members to participate and, most importantly, it will save lives! Click here for all the details including a short video at the D5110 website!

ShelterBox Aid Almost at the Ukraine Border

By Peggy Carlaw

Here’s a 3-minute video update covering the three groups of people we’ll be helping: two groups in Ukraine and one group of refugees:

https://www.canva.com/design/DAE7RHIy_Z4/r6UwxTWY38mXi6rKwTKQnw/view?utm_content=DAE7RHIy_Z4&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link&utm_source=recording_view

The ShelterBox team has arrived in Poland. They’ll be assessing what type of aid refugees will need, what type of aid people living in the middle of the conflict in Ukraine will need, and the logistics for getting aid where it’s needed. ShelterBox’s Kerri Murray is in Poland now and posted this live Facebook video today. Click here to view it from the D5110 Facebook page: https://fb.watch/bDMQA9ZNC4/

Redmond Rotary Gives the “Gift of Literacy”

By Joe Kosanovic

Each year, The Redmond Rotary Club grants the “Gift of Literacy” project to first graders in the Redmond School District.

First graders choose a favorite book they would like to read and the book is given to them inside a backpack. More on this annual academic effort in Redmond by clicking here.

Dear Rotarian,

Several members who cannot make it in person tomorrow asked if it would be possible to include a Zoom option for the meeting and presentation by Patsy Smullin.    So, by popular demand, we will include a Zoom link.

Please do attend in person if you are able.  We don’t want all that food to go to waste!

Rotary – Ukraine / Grants Pass connection

Dear Rotarian,

Next week’s District Newsletter will include a posting copied below about a doctor in Poland who had once been a Rotary Exchange student hosted by the Grants Pass Club.  Last Wednesday, she spoke by internet from Poland to the Grants Pass club members about what they are doing in Poland to help – and they could use assistance.

The Grants Pass Daily Courier covered the story on Wednesday as well.  Pick up a copy or you can access on their website with an online account.

Thank you,

Raul Woerner
President – Rotary Club of Medford

Ukraine-Poland-Youth Exchange

In addition to ShelterBox and RI’s Disaster Relief Fund, here is another way to assist the refugees from Ukraine. Directly to the Rotary Club of Poznan, Poland. A Rotary Exchange Student from Poland who is now a doctor and her Rotary club are asking for medical assistance so they can better help the thousands of Ukrainians still in Ukraine and those that coming into their community. The Poznan club is now getting the needed medical equipment into the hands of Doctors in Lviv, Ukraine. If that region looks like it will be overrun, it will be transferred back to Poland and used there. She has stayed in close contact with her exchange “parents”, Steve and Nancy Swearingen, members of the Grants Pass Rotary Club, who visited there in 2019. If you would like to know where your donation is going and how it will be used please consider helping our clubs in Grant Pass assist the Poznan Rotary in Poland.
Please make the checks out to the Grants Pass Rotary Foundation and put in the I.D. line “Ukraine relief”.
