New Fun(d) Raiser
Costs are going up for everyone and that includes our Rotary Club. Last month we signed a new agreement with the Rogue Valley Country Club for this next club year through June, 2024. We will now be paying $175 per week room charge as opposed to $150. Lots of other budget items are going up, too. Our membership is stable and trending upward somewhat but we are smaller than we were pre-pandemic. Many clubs in the district have found weekly drawings fun and helpful. This is how it will work. We will sell tickets for $1 each, 7 for $5 and 15 for $10. Chuck Root and I will sweeten the deal with $100 to begin. Then the fun and probably weekly excitement will build. The weekly drawing winner will draw a card from the hearts in a deck of playing cards. If the queen of hearts is drawn, the winner splits the pot with the club 50-50. If not, the drawn card is removed from the deck and the pot rolls over to the next week. Fun and excitement builds! Come join us!

Rotary Club of Medford Celebrates Centennial
Breanna Wright remembered five years ago when she looked at the Rotary Club International’s website for the first time. She was almost skeptical with what she saw. “It was like, ‘Changing the world.’ I thought, ‘Wow, that’s pretty lofty. How does that even work?' Then I went to the meeting, and I was surprised at the friendliness and acceptance of the group,” she said. Now the vice president of the Rotary Club of Medford, Wright said she’s looking forward to celebrating the chapter's 100th anniversary next week. The club will celebrate its big centennial with a dinner party from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, at Rogue Valley Country Club. Tickets at $75 include a prime rib, salmon or a vegetarian dinner, according to the club’s website. The event will feature cocktails and a celebration of the club's history, Wright said. There will also be a silent auction to raise money for the club's work. Chuck Root has been a member of the Medford club since he moved to the Rogue Valley in 1988. "Most people join Rotary for the fellowship and the community. With so many people working from home, I think it's really important for people to...

A Tradition of International Service
It is not surprising that Rotary International – the first international service club in the world – encourages us to be involved with other countries. RI inspires us via an excellent incentive system which can double or even quadruple our efforts through the matching program of The Rotary Foundation; often referred to as TRF. Chuck Root - Arushi Agarwal - Anju Agarwal It also requires us to partner with Rotarians in the host country and to focus on making our projects sustainable. I cannot speak to our clubs involvement before joining in 1988, but I do know that we were very supportive of the new program to rid the world of the terrible disease called Polio. At the request of Rotary clubs in the Philippines, TRF was able to make that country polio-free in just a couple of years. When I joined, we were all encouraged to donate $100 to this cause, and worldwide RI raised almost twice the amount that they had targeted. I am sure our club surpassed our goal as well. Our primary involvement in International service began when club president Tim Gerking and District Governor Lyle McLaughlin asked several members to help...

Thank you for your dedication and service to the club. We appreciate it, and the club would not be the same without your effort. Dear Rotarians (and future Rotarians), I am proud to be a part of your club as we head into our 90th year! My fellow Rotarians have made this an exciting club to be a part of and I am excited for what this year holds. This club works because of the dedication of an amazing group of individuals that come together each week to be involved in the community. We are so lucky to have Medford Rotary Club members who step up in the community through service projects and in the Rotary organization through District Leadership and do so always with a sense of FUN. If you are not yet a Rotarian, come check out the oldest and most dynamic club in the district first and it will save you time in “shopping around”. We are currently looking for individuals who want to make a difference in their community and throughout the world. Individuals in our club join smaller committees to organize the Rotary Relays (a track meet for high school students held each Spring), ring...
