Have you ever thought how your everyday choices and actions ripple through the Universe? The power of a single “random act of kindness” astounds me. When I lived in Reno before the homeless situation became out of hand, there was a man I would see hanging around Wild Oats and would purchase a meal for him when I shopped. One time, a lady behind me in the checkout line asked about one of the items I had chosen and I let her know it was for him. She then proceeded to tell me she had been wanting to do something for him as well and gave me a $20 bill to include with his meal. That was the true manifestation of “paying it forward.”
That evening we watched “Evan Almighty,” a 2007 movie starring Steve Carrell and Morgan Freeman. The significance of the day was highlighted with a scene in that movie when Morgan Freeman wrote the letters A-R-K in the dirt and stated its double meaning as “Act of Random Kindness.” Coincidence??
Tomorrow we have the pleasure of hearing Beth Coker’s presentation titled “Indelible Impact.” This may be one of those profound moments where you consciously decide how you will live the rest of your life from this point forward, no matter your age.
Join me and your Rotary friends for a great afternoon on the patio. Please remember our venue has changed to Dunbar Farms this week. It is just a ¼ mile up Hillcrest from RVCC on the left. It you reach Foothill, you have gone too far.
What will be your Act of Random Kindness today?
Yours in Rotary Service,
Michelle Corradetti, President
