Rogue Retreat Shelter Capacity Building Update
August 13 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Hannah Reinhardt, Development Manager for Rogue Retreat, will give an update on Rogue Retreat and the many changes they have seen in the last year. From the increased number of shelter beds to opening new locations, Rogue Retreat continues building capacity and working toward a sustainable shelter and case management model to wrap around and provide support to the local, un-housed population.
Hannah’s Presentation Follow-up:
I wanted to recap presentation points for the club to ensure everyone hears/reads the information in the same way.
Since August of 2023:
- The Kelly Shelter has added an 18-bed medical respite room to bring its capacity to 115 individuals.
- The families were moved from the family rooms to the Redwood at the beginning of June.
- The rooms are now under construction to hopefully expand the shelter with a “Phase 2”.
- We launched a kitchen internship in our Hope Kitchen to provide vocational training for the food service industry to our shelter guests.
- This is an unpaid internship at this time.
- We have had one session so far, but have attempted 3 other sessions. All trainees found gainful employment within the first 2 weeks.
- We also launched a catering program and have partnered with a few local organizations to provide box lunches and sandwich trays for their board meetings and/or regular staff meetings.
- We relaunched our Clean Sweep program – now called Hope Streets – to provide vocational training in light landscape cleanup and community improvement.
- This is a paid program – guests who apply to be on a Hope Streets crew are hired on as Rogue Retreat employees.
- We have been operating for about 2 months.
- We have a contract with the City of Medford for our crew to work with the MPD Livability Team to clean up with Greenway of trash left behind when campsites are vacated or abandoned.
- We moved and expanded the Urban Campground – now called Rogue Retreat Crossings – with an increased 150-bed capacity.
- We removed rigid tents, added 13 tiny homes and 60 Foldums, and added a Village Phase.
- We completed the construction of the Redwood Inn!
- Redwood has 44 units available – 21 medical respite rooms and 23 studio apartments.
- Answering a question: Rogue Retreat receives an eclectic mix of funding from donors, local foundation grants, and state and federal monies.
- If nothing were to change in money in or money out, we have a few more years of funding at this present moment to carry us.
- HOWEVER, Rogue Retreat is moving to an ownership model for our programs and we are increasing revenue generation and aiming for sustainability. We are also still seeing money coming in.
- We hope to continue to increase capacity as there are still thousands of unhoused individuals in the area we would like to serve and support if they desire service and support.
