$500 Action Awards Applications Approved – Checks in the mail!
By DG Gerry Kosanovic
Congratulations to the first four clubs to receive a $500 District 5110 Action Award. Each club submitted an application, approved by their respective Assistant Governor, that addresses one or more of the four strategic priorities of Rotary. Despite the challenges that confront all of us, a focus of adapting, expanding our reach, engaging participants, and increasing our impact defines a path forward that is full of potential and possibility.
The Rotary Club of Corvallis After Five will allocate their award money to hosting a community-wide spelling bee. The Rotary Club of Lakeview is partnering with Lake County School District staff, Lakeview High School Students, and local businesses to promote community service, express gratitude, and represent the community of Lakeview to all Fire or Fire related personnel in Lakeview for the Bootleg Fire. The Rotary Club of Sisters is using the award to purchase audio-visual equipment that will enhance presentations in a meaningful way. Likewise, the Rotary Club of Springfield-Twin Rivers will adapt their meeting with the purchase of the Owl Meeting device, a 360 camera, microphone, and speaker to better deliver a hybrid meeting.

Southern 5110 Clubs Unite for BBQ, Service Project
By Michael McGowen
On Saturday, August 7 the Rotary Club of Lakeview hosted Rotary friends from the two Alturas, California Rotary clubs at a BBQ luncheon. The event was held at the Warner Valley Ski Hill, which is about 10 miles northeast of Lakeview. The Ski Hill is a frequent venue for Lakeview Rotary events, and also a recipient of Rotary donations over the years – most recently to fund the construction of a new deck adjacent the lodge.
Approximately 30 Rotarians assembled for a mixed-grill lunch and some cornhole competition. Last summer the Alturas Rotarians hosted Lakeview Rotarians at their newly completed Rotary Park facility.
Rotarians Volunteer 1,299 Hours at Deschutes County Fair
By Judy Corwin
For 34 years, the Rotary Club of Redmond has volunteered at the Deschutes County Fair to raise funds for service projects and scholarships. Following a year’s absence due to COVID, the club was at it again, devoting 1,299 hours and 70-plus volunteers worked more than 150 shifts in the effort.
The success of D5110 depends, in large part, upon the quality of leadership that our clubs share at the district level. We now are searching for our DG for the year 2024-25. Clubs now have until September 15th to file their submissions with the Nominations Committee, which is comprised of four Rotarians elected last spring along with three Past District Governors.
If you think you have the leadership skills, motivation, and personality to lead our District into the future, take action and ask your club to throw your hat in the ring as a candidate for this future Governorship.
