REMINDER: Any club wishing to submit a resolution for possible inclusion in the District 5110 Policy Manual must submit its proposal to District Governor Cindi by March 16. Contact Resolutions Committee Chair PDG Claudette Mirassou McWilliams at 541-921-7592 or dgclaudette1718@gmail.com with questions or requests for assistance.

Any resolution to come before the District at the District Conference must be distributed to all member clubs of the District by the District Resolution Committee at least one month prior to the District Conference. To disseminate any potential resolutions as required, the resolution committee must receive the proposed resolutions at least 45 days prior to the District Conference.

Save the Date: The Annual Business Meeting of D5110 will be held May 1. Resolutions that are submitted, reviewed and put forward by the District Governor will be voted upon.

Rotarians who are involved with Interact, the Rotary-sponsored service clubs for high school students, will be interested in a Virtual Interact Conference on Saturday, March 20. It’s free, and it will provide an opportunity to learn from Interact leaders in 30 Rotary districts.

One of the conference speakers will be our own Walker Sheidow, a Junior at South Eugene High School. Her Interact club has thrived during the shutdown, meeting regularly via Zoom and finding ways to serve. Walker created and spearheaded a virtual tutoring program where Interactors tutor over 50 elementary and middle school students. Walker is a cross-country runner and throws javelin and discus for her school’s track team. She is a Red Cross volunteer and active in the SPICE program that promotes STEM careers for women. Rotary District 5110 is excited to present this year’s 4-Way Test speech contest in order to provide the same wonderful opportunities to the students within our district. Registration forms are now being accepted, and clubs are scheduling contests at their local level which will be held in March and April. The local level contests will be held virtually, or in a safe distanced environment in compliance with the local protocol in the individual club’s location.

We are cautiously optimistic that we can hold the finals in person during our District Conference Celebration May 28, but that will obviously be dependent on how things develop. Promoting peace is one of Rotary’s main causes. The fully funded Rotary Peace Fellowship, which covers tuition and living expenses, increases the capacity of existing leaders to prevent and resolve conflict by offering academic training, field experience, and professional networking.

Up to 130 fellows are selected every year in a globally competitive process based on personal, academic, and professional achievements. Fellows earn either a master’s degree or a certificate in peace and development studies at one of the seven Rotary Peace Centers, located at leading universities around the world.
