Rotary 5110 in Action eNews 01-05-2021

We are looking for volunteers to conduct interviews and compile audio pictures to help tell more Rotary stories.

With more than one million Rotarians world-wide, each of us have memories, experiences and service that have impacted our Rotary lives. Powerful stories of service and accomplishments. Rotary District 5110 is compiling a series of podcasts to capture these stories to share with fellow Rotarians and communities.

Each week in the month of January you can experience a new sample lesson from the interactive training program.This week meet award-winning podcaster Dr. Siobhan McHugh, who teaches podcasting and journalism at the University of Wollongong in Australia. McHugh has generously provided material from her training program for our use.

The training, software and access to equipment are provided by the district, free to the podcasting team. There are a limited number of seats. If you are interested in learning more or joining the team visit the sign-up page or contact team@rotaryvolunteerconnect.org with any questions.

The first Rotary Grant meeting is scheduled for this Saturday, January 9 at 9am by Zoom.

The agenda will openede by Endowmenent and Major Grants Officer Elizabeth Cruft-Anderson as she addresses Endowment and Legacy giving and ways to include Rotary in your retirement planning. Reem Ghuniam, the Director for Rotary Action Group for Peace, will follow with a talk about their initiatives and ways they can support your club.

In 1905, Paul Harris launched Rotary for like-minded business professionals to amplify their fellowship and through Rotary, to strengthen businesses and to support their communities. Past President of the Rotary Club of Redmond, Dr. Waldon Zimmerman passed away December 2, 2020 at his home with his wife, Carol and their family at his side. Wally was one of those Rotarians that set a high bar to emulate and was very distinguished in his service activities, both in and out of Rotary. Wally was a two time president of the Redmond club beginning with his first term in 1982-1983. Wally was also one of four past presidents to step up to the plate in 1987-1988 when the president-elect left the area. Each of four past presidents served a three-month tour to complete the Rotary year. Wally was also a Paul Harris Fellow.

Outside of Rotary, Wally was named Redmond Citizen of the Year in 1991 and served many years on the Deschutes County Fair Board, including directing the fair parade for many years. Dr. Zimmerman was named Oregon Dentist of the Year in 1989 and his dental career spanned 50 years.
